We had bought sharpshark knife sharpener from qvc a few years ago. They don't sharpen good anymore. I have seen an electric knife sharpener on qvc and none electric knife sharpeners. I'm not sure what to buy. I would appreciate rec gommendations from you guys. Everyone on here usually gives good advice.

MY DAD was a knife collector and had an extensive collection of expensive pocket knives.  He would never have used a shopping channel or any commercial sharpener on his knives.   When I first married, he brought me a whetstone and a can of 3 in 1 oil from the hardware store.  Said that was the best way to get a good edge on a knife without damaging it.

@Pooky1 I know Sharp Shark has a few models. I have the small one which looks like the one pictured below. Mine was sold in a set of two and I purchased it a few years ago and have never had to open the second unit. Over the years I had tried a number of sharpening instruments (manual and electric) to maintain an expensive wooden block wooden handle steel knife set from Chicago Cutlery.  I was satisfied with some, but I was afraid of slicing off a finger trying to use others. Having said that the Shark Sharp has been the best and for my comfort level safest sharpener I have ever used. The Shark renewed my love of the knives from my old woodblock because they are sharp with every use now. I also have some inexpensive ceramic knives that came with the claim of not needing sharpening, but (do) and the Shark works on those too.  If you are disappointed perhaps you won't want to try another Sharp Shark, and surely you'll get recommendations for other types of good sharpeners to consider.

the BEST place to have to have knives sharpened is KNIFE AID (it was introduced on sharktank.) i sent in knives (very old cutco knives.....from the late 50s) and they came back super sharp. i am now hooked. they even fixed the tip of one of the knives.

Chef's Choice makes manual and electric models and is generally well-regarded.

I got a tiny one free with something I bought that works great. I also have a Curtis Stone one that I've never used.

I learned how to use a sharpening steel several years ago by watching a sales presentation for a knife sharpener.  Took the lesson to heart and now have sharp knives using the steel.  Don't need any machines.

My problem is DH thinks I am too incompetent to use a whetstone and yet he never gets around to doing it himself.  So I use one of those yellow things that you stick your knuckles through.  Very carefully, I might add.  So far no mishaps.  

I checked Amazon for Sharp Shark and came up with Any Shark.  Same thing?  Don't care for suction attachments, too many have failed in my lifetime.

ITA.  I have the CC Trizor XV.  I've had it for many years.  I think these will last pretty much forever for most people.  It's a great machine.

Also, I'm pretty loyal to companies that make great products AND have great customer service.   One time I lost the booklet that came with it and I contacted them to ask if I could purchase another one.  They were great and mailed me out, right away, a new booklet.

Of course, then, I found the original one. D'oh!   So now I have one of them in the Lock & Lock container where I have the unit stored and another one in a cabinet in the kitchen where I found the original one.

(no reason to keep it in a L&L, but I had one the exact size of the unit and just figured that way I could easily keep it stored clean.
