Yes, there are different sizes so that it comes to the edge of the bowl. If you buy one that's too big it will hit and if you buy one that's too small it won't mix.

Happy New Year!
The attachments like the meat grinder and things that attach to the front of the machine are universal, from the first model ever made to today.
The beaters, dough hook and whisk are size specific.

My husband had to use the rubber edged beater today since the coated one didn't work and there was no problem, but obviously what do I know, ha, ha, I'm KitchenAid ignorant. Thanks for the reply. I stopped using it for awhile but I will try again. Since the attachments are interchangeable, I can see picking up the wrong beater size, too.

I have an after market rubber edged beater and on the package it notes that an adjustment to the depth may have to be made. On my tilt head model, with the motor tilted up there is an adjustment screw that lowers or raises the head when it is in the down position.

The other difference is that the KA lady on the Q uses the glasss bowl.On 12/27/2014 philogirl said: If I may jump in here with a different KA beater question: is there a trick to using the rubber edged beater?
