Thank you all for your responses.  I apologize for being vague, tired.

These young men are all 21 or will be in a few months.  I now have great ideas for birthday/housewarming gifts.  The 5 of them have been friends since 1st grade.  Great kids!

Lots of great ideas here...I would like to add a nice mix of spices.  I bought a gift box of them from Penzey's for my son and he uses them all the time.

We always gifted one laundry basket with kitchen essentials like: sugar, flour, corn meal, coffee, tea, condiments, basic spices and a variety of can goods. We included another laundry basket with laundry detergents, soaps and a variety of cleaning supplies. Our group always looked forward to these special gifts and didn't appreciate and changes. I am 65 but today gift are totally different. Southern Bee

@SouthernBee People have gotten  so greedy that I am glad I haven't gone to a shower in years, for all I know showers take place via conferance call.
