I have BOTH bowls. I don't keep my KA out...so looks are not important to me. My TSV KA came w/ the glass bowl. The glass bowl cracked w/in 2 wks so it was replaced for free under warranty. Have now had that one for 2 years. NO problem w/ that band. I like that I can see inside to know if I am thoroughly mixed all the way to the bottom...or if I need to scrape. Which I do more often in the glass bowl. It doesn't seem to get everything mixed especially in the deep bottom.
It IS very heavy, it IS a tad awkward to use. Also, there is NO splash guard made for the glass one. I was having a problem w/ dry ingredients POOFING back up at me and wanted the pour/splash guard. I had worn enough flour on my face!!
SO...last summer when Everything EZ Pay day came...I ordered a SS bowl and the pour/splash guard plastic thingy. The SS bowl is shaped slightly different and I find I get to the bottom better w/ this one. It is so much lighter..I find myself grabbing the SS more often. I do like having 2 bowls though...comes in handy for big projects not to have to clean one and start again.
If I could only pick one...I would pick the SS.

The glass looks nice, but one drop and you're out a machine.

Can I purchase a SS bowl for my 5 quart, even though it came with the glass one? Are they interchangeable?

The tilt head one? It should work. I have an old ss bowl I have put on my Artisan. . .

I have an Oster Kitchen Center mixer that I got when I got married 35 years ago. It came with two sizes of glass bowls. I still have those original bowls with no chips or anything wrong with them. I can't even imagine using a mixer with stainless bowls. But I think the quality of my glass American made bowls (back in the day) were made to last.

I put the 1983 ss bowl of my mother's on my new Artisan and it fit! I used her old paddle beater with it and it seemed to work ok. I imagine the newer bowls fit better. The kitchenaid site will give you all the model numbers for the bowls so you will know exactly what they fit!

I'm glad I read this thread. I've been wanting the glass bowl, but I don't think I do anymore.

I sort of had that backwards. . . I think when you look at bowls it tells you what mixer models they fit. That's what I remember anyway! Probably Amazon and other sites do as well.
