I bought this hand mixer in December to replace my Hamilton Beach that the beater tends to fall out. I have used it twice for mashed potatoes and I don't know if I really like it. I can still return before the end of the month, but I am on the fence. I love my big Kitchen Aid mixer and I thought I would love this one for small jobs.

Anyone else have it? Is there a brand you like better?

I have the KA 9 speed mixer and love it!

I only had one other hand mixer in all my years of housekeeping, and it wasn't expensive (at the time) but I can't remember the brand now. It finally gave out after about 20 or more years. So I don't have a real frame of reference to compare my KA to.

Can you figure out just what you don't care for? Is it the power, or the ease of use?

I'm guessing if you are like me, and had an old mixer that you loved, or at least that was a real work horse for a long time, you see that anything new isn't just not made the same, or 'feels' the same.

Manufacturers are cheapening things more all the time.

Hope you do find one that you really like.

Are the beaters in the correct slot? My mixer has a specific slot for each beater and if they are reversed they will fall out.

My mom gifted me with an orange Kitchenaid 9 speed hand mixer for Christmas to replace my older Cuisinart 7 speed hand mixer for which the whisk attachment had broken (the Cuisinart was recommended by Cook's Illustrated and that is why I bought it so many years ago) I did not love the KA one.  The color is great and all the attachments are convenient but honestly, it did not have the power of my Cuisinart.  I also love my 6 qt pro stand mixer by Kitchenaid but was disappointed in the hand mixer.  I had my mom return it, I kept my Cuisinart and ordered a replacement whisk attachment.  Maybe they are inconsistent because some people love it and others share my experience.

I've had the handmixer for probably 15 years. I don't use it often, but when I do it does the job.

I gave my Kitchen aid hand mixer away and I did notice the beater slots are different on the Cuisinart.  Most of the time they have a picture showing the correct placement

Maybe you are right about it just being different from the one I had for 20 years. I don't think the Kitchen Aid is as powerful, but it does the job. I think my old one was better made. Maybe I expected more METAL in the new Kitchen aid....I don't know......

I have a 7 speed and a 9 speed  so I always have a backup.  For Christmas I make over 400 dozen cookies (mixing 3 or even 4 measures of cookie dough at a time) and usually after 2-3 years need to replace whatever handmixer I had.  I had an Emeril (which is no longer made) that lasted 4  years.  At first I was disappointed that the 9 speed kitchen aid didn't seem to have as much power on the highest speed but it isn't necessary as it sure does the job. This is my 3rd year with my 9 speed and it's going strong.   Now I wouldn't want any other brand.

I bought the 9 speed KA handmixer in Dec 2014, figuring my old B&D handmixer is on its way out because of its age.

I just can't get used to it, after using my B&D since 1994. It only has 5 speeds, but it still is as powerful, imho, as the KA one. The B&D replaced another B&D that crumbled apart (plastic housing and vents) while I was using it. We were living in AL at the time, and I had to drive to a Florida outlet mall an hour away to find a replacement within my budget.

My daughter uses the KA because she prefers it. She thinks it's mixes better, but I think it's because she isn't used to using the B&D like I have done for many years. I know timing, settings that work for the best result on B&D, haven't gotten that groove yet with the KA. At the least, the KA is quieter.
