Food for a Snowy Weekend in the Northeast

what is everyone cooking this weekend...here on Long Island the supermarkets are jammed in anticipation of the upcoming storm... i'm making sweet and sour stuffed cabbage and I bought a pork tenderloin--going to try a recipe with sourkraut and apples...anyone else have any cooking plans?

We're missing your snow, but had our own the last few days.  I fixed a big pot of chili (this recipe required a dash of cinnamon) and it was delicious!

Re: Food for a Snowy Weekend in the Northeast

Our snow melted, but we got a little rain. I'm not in the NE though. Tonight I'm making garlic roasted potatoes and roasting a spatchcocked chicken on a bed of carrots. I'm also doing some chicken breast sous vide for other recipes, I needed to get them cooked as they've been in the fridge.

My daughter caught my strep throat so I'm happy I have some turkey vegetable soup still in the fridge I made a few days ago.

I am making vegetable soup. I love soup when it is cold.

Re: Food for a Snowy Weekend in the Northeast

We had our big snow storm last Sunday-Monday (lake effect in NE Ohio), but if I were on the East Coast this weekend I think I'd be making a big pot of soup or chili.

Re: Food for a Snowy Weekend in the Northeast

tobias... That sounds yummy ! Looks like my area is going to miss

the heavy snowfall. It's still very cold and if I don't have to go

outdoors..I won't. I have been putting my crock pot to use. I  made

pork and sauerkraut last week. I never tried it with apples but I bet

it is good. Today I'm making pulled pork . My grocery store had a

sale on pork tenderloins, so I stocked up  LOL . Stuffed cabbage

sounds good. I used to make stuffed cabbage rolls all the time.

Think I'll plan to make some soon. I also enjoy having good

homemade soup. Keep safe and warm !!

On Long Island too.....and YES was at the food store which was def more crowded then normal and ALSO the gas stations were pretty packed on our way home.  All getting ready for the snow......which i must say i hope is less then predicted.    A small turkey breast dinner w/mash potatoes and asparagus looks like may be on the menu this weekend at this point..............

I am in the Northwest not the Northeast and we are having crab cakes and red chard sauteed with currants and pine nuts.

Re: Food for a Snowy Weekend in the Northeast

I'm in New Jersey and expecting a lot! Already made chili and bean soup with a ham bone I'd saved from New Years, so will be doing beef stew on Saturday. Meatballs and sauce are in the crockpot now and will have leftovers. Always have chicken breasts in the freezer, so that will be another meal - probably Francaise over orzo. Hopefully, we'll be all dug out by then! All stocked up on cat food and litter, so they're good to go.
