No recipe, but I remember my dad catching catfish, cleaning them, using plyers to pull the skin off.

It never really impressed me much. It is OK but I'm more of a salmon lover.

Hubby & I LOVE catfish. He just made a fabulous catfish dinner just the other night. It was to die for!!!!! I was at the grocery store and he added buttermilk to the list, I didn't know why. After I got home he asked me if I bought it, told him yes, then asked why.
He asked me to start the recipe while he showered. I put the filets in a plastic bag with 1cup buttermilk and a tsp of hot sauce. Sealed the bag, mixed it all up and put in the fridge. When he was ready to continue w/dinner, he dried the fish then dipped in mix of (half & half) flour & cornmeal, back in the remaining buttermilk, cornmeal again then deep fried the catfish.
Can I get a HOLY CATFISH Batman --- this stuff is OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a quick easy DOUBLE DELICIOUS recipe. So crunchy too. I NEED more NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW MsCCO75, YUM, hot sauce w/catfish - NONE BETTER!!!

That's how you do it, only thing I do different is add a little garlic powder and a little onion powder dash of seasoned salt to the cornmeal mixture to give it a tinge of redness like when you buy it at a restaurant. Fine eating!

Someone else can have my share. I'm a lover of all fish and seafood, but catfish is just not a favorite of mine. I don't think it has much flavor, you have to jazz it up, and it's such an ugly fish with those big whiskers. Blech. Give me a nice piece of cod or halibut instead.

Yeah, their ugly alright I buy mine fillets, then, I don't know what I'm eating anyway. Let somebody else cut off the head and tail. I saw a show on TV one day that shows people catching catfish by hand, they can do that because they don't have teeth at all. If they latch onto you it's just a suction pain not a teeth thing. Thing I won't eat is shrimp and lobster, now , that's ugly and to pricey for me anyway.

When I heard catfish the first thing I thought about is something people do to fool other people.
Isn't that called 'catfish'? I don't know for sure, but I thought that was what it was called.
Does anyone remember 'salt herring'? I think that's what it is called. It's a kind of fish. I was raised by my grandmother. Her mother was a full blooded American Indian. She used to make all kinds of fish meals.
I remember the salt herring. I remember my family picking out the little bones from the fish. Is this just an Urban Legend in my brain (no one to ask) or was there really such a thing?

Fried fingerling, the best and today is my birthday. Had a free dinner of fingerlings at a local restaurant.
