@homedecor1  There is a website I find invaluable for snafus such as you're having.  It is appliancepartspros[dot]com.  At this site you can find your exact make and model and enter your 'symptoms' to find solutions, original parts as well as tutorial videos.  I have used this site twice, each time with remarkable results.  In fact, the last time, I had the part installed and was using the machine inside 24 hours of posting my problem.  No kidding. IMHO, this site is one to bookmark.

The owner's manual that came with my new GE stove addresses how to do this. 

 

If you don't  have your owner's manual, you should be able to access the manual online.
