I received a NuWave induction cook-top as a gift.  I love it, however, there were a couple of things that surprised me based on what I had seen in the advertisements.  The first was the warning printed on the surface that the cooktop could remain hot after cooking.  What?  I thought the cooktop didn't get hot.  But it does absorb heat from the pan.  Not sure if it's enough to burn you but it is certainly hot.  I think this could be dangerous for children who might touch the cooktop thinking it doesn't get hot.  Also, the NuWave at least, has a fan that I've never heard mentioned.  It's about as loud as a kitchen exhaust fan on low.  Not bad but certainly noticeable.

I also have a NuWave and love it.  You bring up some good points; I don't understand than fan either.  I've seen a diagram of the inside of the unit and didn't see any fan so I don't understand the noise, but you're right, they surely don't mention it.  I guess people will just have to warn kids about not touching it.  I doubt they watch the ad closely enough to get the claim that it's not hot.

@Butterboo  The cook-top gets hot from the pot and if you cooked on a very high heat the pot/pan will get very hot  and in turn heats up the cook-top.  But it is only where the contact occurred which really does make sense.

I don't know about the noise.  I don't have that.  You may want to return the unit for another one.  I love mine and only cook on these NuWave induction units.

Good luck!

I've been trying to find a set of pans specifically for the cook top.  I know how to figure out what works but I some that look good like the one the Q just sold and I bought.

I bought one for me and one for my daughter.

Butterboo,

When they say that the cooktop doesn't get hot, I think they're saying that once your pan is removed, it doesn't remain hot like an electric or gas burner does. That's the point. Once a pan is removed from an electric or gas burner and the burner is turned off, it will STILL be hot enough to cause a burn if touched. With an induction burner, the unit will have some residual heat that has been transferred to it from the hot pan you've just cooked with. Yes, if you touch it, it will feel warm or even hot, but not to the point it will burn you. As with anything that might get hot or retain any heat, you don't touch it and you teach your children not to touch it either.

As for the fan, yes this one has a fan as do all induction burners.

If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pot/pan it will work on induction.

I have had several of the nuwave induction cookers.  They DO stay hot enough to burn you for some period of time after they are turned off.  I went into my kitchen after my son had fixed a meal for himself and, not knowing he had used the nuwave and not being the least bit magnetic, I got a bright red palm when I set my hand on top of it to push it to the back of the counter.  It was pink and sore for a few days but not really serious, although I think it could cause more problems on a child's hand.

I have an induction cooktop also, not a Nuwave but it too has a very loud fan. I was surprised the first time I used it, I can't hear my TV when it's on!  I love it though, hope you enjoy using yours.

I am interested in the product, as I permanently  live in a Airstream motorhome.

According to the recent demo , Jan Mulder put his hand on the hot induction plate  and didn't get burned,

Do you have to take off your metal jewelry when using it?
