Re: In The Kitchen with David AND ALL THAT FOOD- where does it go after the show?

Seems like this question, although it's been answered a hundred times over, comes up every week here.

You're right. It's just another dig to get the bile flowing.

And OP seems to make that attempt on a regular basis. Almost any food not consumed by the staff after a show wouldn't be safe or fit to send to a shelter or a pantry. There are rules for a reason, just because people are poor, homeless or hungry doesn't mean they want food that is unsafe to eat. The rules are to protect both the giver and the receiver. So many rules because SOME people can't use common sense.

Think of it this way. A lot of food is purchased and prepared, and cleaned up after during these presentations. Products are sold. Keeps grocery store folks, Q employees, people in manufacturing and delivery service folks in a job. If some food gets "wasted" in the process, at least jobs are being created/maintained by the use of the food for the show, so it really isn't a total waste.

As for businesses that donate unused food, I've been part of that process through the years, and of course I support it, but much of that food goes to waste once it hits the shelters and pantries as well. Fresh food has a very short life, and oftentimes the organizations can't distribute it fast enough to get use out of all of it.

Hi, I don't usually post on this Forum, but I saw it on the Main Forum page.

I recently went on the All Access Tour at QVC. As part of the tour, we went into the QVC Kitchen where all the food is prepared for the shows. This is a completely different area than the QVC Employee Cafeteria, which is really nice and where you get to eat on the All Access Tour.

While on the Kitchen part of the tour, the Chef in charge spoke to us for quite a while. He explained how a lot of the food is for show, and really is not edible. He joked that quite often the question is asked about what is really edible after the shows and not much of it really is.

Much of it is prepared in advance and they have to use tricks, (non edible things) to make it last for hours under the lights, especially if the TSV is Food or a Cooking item.

Very little is edible after the shows.

Much of what is displayed isn't food, it's props. Cake decorators display samples that are actually frosted styrofoam, because cake would go bad. I'm also betting that a lot of those pies and such that are out to represent recipes in a cookbook are just decorated Cool Whip or shaving cream.

Funny you say this because just the other night, Rachel Boesing was on with Chris Pryme and mentioned something about a pie they were showing (the pie looked like it was topped with Cool Whip). Rachel asked if it was edible or ... then she asked if it was shaving cream. Chris laughed and said that it was the C.W. stuff (that's how she said the brand so as not to actually name it) and that she just made the pie!

On 5/11/2014 MOM of Sophie said: If you pay close attention especially when there is a food related TSV it looks as if the same food is displayed at every demo. There is some that the hosts sample but that is limited. Again we all agree its a great idea to donate to the less fortunate but there are health rules in every area that have to be followed. Usually any food that us not covered, kept at a certain temperature - either hot or cold - cannot be used for donation or resold. The threat of contaminated food is too high. I am sure that as large as the Q is there are plenty of on air and behind the camera staff to consume any food that is safe.

I think you are correct. I would think when they show the steaks and other meat freshly cooked, the camera people and others can get a "sample". There are laws/restrictions about distributing food to shelters, etc. Agree that most of the food would not be safe especially when it is shown throughout the day.
