 And who can forget the giant (naybe 3 inch) polo player on Ralph Lauren items?  They had these on Olympic uniforms and I thought it was tasteless.  I think they did away with them.

Logos were on Olympic uniforms because it's very likely that Ralph Lauren outfitted our  Olympic team at no cost to the Olympic team. Seems very fair and reasonable to me that the Ralph Lauren logo would appear on the uniforms in exchange for providing the uniforms.

Many buy and display the products with the logo as a sense of the Community.It is also a talking point when fellow ITK foodie relatives visit the home.  The items act as a bond between foodies. That is my opinion why they are so popular.
