I also have a Brita pitcher, and sometime had the black specks, in the top of the pitcher, but not in the pitcher itself. Brita has a new filter now, and you don't have to soak it, just run water on it. I have no problem now with black specks. I have been buying them at Target. I love the new filter. I emailed Brita, to let them know how happy I am with the new filter, and they sent me a $3.00 coupon.
