I don't believe cooking in metal pots is any safer for us. The metal leeches into the food.
I cook one processed meal in my microwave every day. Usually just a side dish size. Why? I cannot stand up for more than five minutes in front of a stove, and I can't lift pots full of food. I even have a hard time lifting them when empty.
I'm 77 and so far don't have any signs of cancer. If the microwave is killing me, I should be dead by now.

Mine is built in, so it's staying for now, but I don't use it.
Actually, I do use it for two things:
~ heating a cup of water for yeast (31 seconds is perfect temp)
~ heating sugar/water for my hummingbirds
I really can do both of those things on the stove, but since it's there, I use it.

I have never owned a microwave and never will. Never had a need for it, the only electrics I have on my counter is a teakettle, toaster oven and my husbands Kurieg. I don't need to eat food or warm up drinks that fast, I like to take time doing any of that and enjoy it the way it was meant to be. I just make the time for it.

I don't think I could give mine up. I KNOW I couldn't give it up! It's installed above my stove/under a cabinet so it doesn't take up valuable counter space.

Some of the people here certainly need an education in manners and tact. Consider it pseudo-science if you like, it's your health, and your choice, but don't knock those of us who take care of ourselves.
Years ago they used to have doctors in ads for cigarettes saying how safe they were. Yeah, well...it wasn't fun nursing my late husband through lung cancer.

So if you use a microwave, you're not taking care of yourself?

A friend of mine got rid of hers; she said she did research and decided it was dangerous. I didn't ask her about it because she has some strange ideas about medical issues that I know are wrong. I read research papers and wrote medical copy for the layman for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation and did a newsletter so I am well informed and still read research.
I asked a friend of mine who was brought here from England to work on the first atomic submarine to research it for me. He uses his microwave constantly. He told me it was safe.
However everyone has a right to their opinion and getting rid of a microwave doesn't harm anyone.
I'd love the extra counter space.
Great post, lavendar.
Based on actual science, microwaves don't harm our food, don't magically morph safe food into dangerous fare. The scare tactics used by charlatan websites are nonsense. In fact, microwaves are used in hospitals, labs, and other medical and research offices, and they're perfectly safe. I like having one handy -- it's useful and a time-saver.
@Jezzebel, Yes, "NaturalNews" is a dreadful website.

It's an awful shame that some sites spread such awful propaganda. It's true, as already stated, that microwaving doesn't hurt the food and it doesn't kill us either.
I would just ask people to find research through REPUTABLE sources. There's always a lot of bad stuff out there and it is worthwhile to make sure we aren't believing stuff that's just for the purpose of freaking people out or supporting an agenda.
