Good list.  I'd add one of my own favorites:  if you're buying individual oranges or grapefruits, choose those with smooth shiny skins.  That will give you the best chance of getting fresh, juicy fruit.

I hold my watermelon in one palm and pat it with the other. It should have a slight vibration. Sweet and ripe! If it feels solid, no vibration, I put it back.

I was so happy when I learned that you could put a ripe avocado in the refrigerator for up to a week. Thank goodness the price has gone down again.

This applies to lemons, too! Smiley Happy

TY for the list, I needed it for figs, whenever I next see them at Wegmans!

Re: How to Pick PRODUCE Like a Pro

When I was ten years old we lived in Prescott, Arizona.  I was staring at a large bin of watermelons and an older gentleman came up and asked me if I knew how to pick a good melon.  I started looking around for my mother.

He reached over and picked up one of the melons.  He pointed to a series of brown lines on the yellowish belly.  "See these?  That's what you look for."

He explained that most people would pass up that melon because of the lines.  But they'd be making a mistake.

"That's where the bugs chew the rind."

I wondered why I'd want to buy a melon that bugs had chewed.

"Bugs know good melons."

It's been 47 years and I still remember that.
