Of course, we could all live without our dishwashers, but I surely would miss mine.  I'd give mine an 8, but if I couldn't have one, I'd survive just fine.  Growing up we didn't have one (correction, we had TWO--my sister and me.)

Why?  It saves water (important in drought areas like mine)  and dishes are cleaner than hand washing. I just scrape, don't rinse, 99% are clean after washing.  Puts the dishes out of sight while they are waiting to be washed.

We bought a fairly fancy one with several different options, but I just use "normal" every time.

@Another new name Sue   I can remember being the family diswasher as well. Smiley Happy

@Harpa I had to be fingerprinted for a job and the city or county couldn't get prints with many trys.  I had to go to State Bureau to some fancy digital machine.  I blame it on piano playing and typing.

Touch screens also are sort of problematic for me, which I blame on it as well.

And to think, I could have had a productive life of crime in one county!  Woman Very Happy

@Sooner  Well now, that is an excuse!! Smiley Happy You're not pulling bare strings (wire, gut & nylon) like I am!

Speaking of dishwashers, though, it's pretty bad when you have to rinse everything first and then shove things in the dishwasher to get another cleaning.

I do rinse off occasionally, but not like what DD does. That's because she overloads and things would never get cleaned otherwise. I usually run my DW every morning no matter how little or big is in there.

Re: How important is your dishwasher?

@Harpa Hey, an hour a day of beating the keys for 12 years have to have some effect!  LOL!  My husband plays guitars and loves 12 strings! Took typing in high school and did 144 words a minute!

Your DD and my mother are 2 birds of a feather about dishes! I might scrape and occasionally hit them with the spray if it's bad, but no, I'm throwing them in the Bosch!

Wow, @Sooner !! You sure beat me! My hat is off to you!! I only typed on average of just over 100!  (Shorthand was 120.) My DM taught me at home before I took it in HS. Also got the typing award at graduation.

You know, I've been searching for someone to play piano duets with. How 'bout it? I can send you some 4-hand Beethoven or other things!

Piano duets & tea!

Re: How important is your dishwasher?

@mspatmac  Modern conveniences are fine, I certainly don't want to go down the the creek and beat my clothes on a rock.

That being said, the newer appliances don't last and companies are so busy thinking up bells and whistles for them it cost an arm and a leg to repair or replace every 5 years.

Just make a good solid product that does the job well and lasts   more than a handful of years.

@Harpa It would be a dream. I mostly stick to Baroque because I love the ones that are A) like a puzzle and a mental game and a speed test and B) I have unfortunately small hands! Woman Sad

ETA:  Although, duh, yesterday I was playing some little Beethoven piano pieces in an OLD book!

Re: How important is your dishwasher?

I have a perfectly good dishwasher but haven't used it for several years.  I'm a family of one who doesn't cook much and it's just easier to hand wash my few dishes and not have to un!oad a diswasher, a chore I've always hated.

Have never had one, nor a desire to have one.
