Re: How important is your dishwasher?

@jlkz My mom didn't want a cell phone and tore up EVERY charger we got for it.  How do you even do that?

I get your dishwasher story for sure!  Sometimes when people are told they should get a tablet or computer for a stubborn elderly person, I think oh yeah!  Woman Wink

@Rockycoast But then we've all had those "3 days in a day" days haven't we? Woman Wink

Re: How important is your dishwasher?

I need my dishwasher. We're retired and hubby likes his 3 square meals a day, which adds up to being a short-order cook 👩‍🍳, and accumulating a lot of dishes. I could t drink out of a glass at someone's house unless it was wash (sterilized) in a dishwasher.

Re: How important is your dishwasher?

@Pook - No, dishes do not have to be rinsed; that's just a huge waste of water.  Scraped (large food particles and such)?  Yes.

I don't know how many people you've watched unload their dishwashers and inspect the dishes but, if the dishwasher, which uses water at a much higher temperature than human hands can withstand, isn't cleaning, they are either doing something wrong or need a new dishwasher.  Even the detergent can make a difference; some clean better than others.

Also, dishwashers periodically should have a clean cycle run, to prevent limescale build-up.  Tablets are sold for that.  If simple maintenance isn't done, yes, you might get a funky smell after a while, but that's "operator error".

My Bosch dishwasher is energy (and water) efficient, leaves my dishes sanitized and clean.  No pre-rinsing required.

Waiting for the repairman to come because it's a 10 for me.  Cleans better than washing by hand, saves so much water which is so important today.

I don't understand why so many refuse to take advantage of modern conveniences just because they didn't have them growing up or they have been doing things this way for 40 years.  I embrace what makes life easier and more efficient and  admit to enjoying my electronics, especially my smart phone.  I am no spring chicken but have moved on to new and exciting things.  Just me!

Re: How important is your dishwasher?

I like having a dishwasher, but if mine were to die, I could live if supply chain problems meant I had to wait months to replace it.  Guess that means it rates about a 5.

For what it's worth, my refrigerator and stove rank as 10's, my microwave only a 9.  I ranked my garbage disposal as a zero and eliminated its plumbing even when I updated the sink and counters.

Re: How important is your dishwasher?

My dishwasher used to be very important in my life.

Now that I'm alone I don't use many dishes, so I rarely use the dishwasher.

I save water when I don't use it.

Re: How important is your dishwasher?

I give it a 1.  I try to run the dishwasher once a year just to be sure it still works, doesn't leak, etc.  Handwashing is fine for me.  I have to think it uses less water than the dishwasher though I know some claim otherwise.

Not very much.  The one I own now is about five years old and has only been turned on twice each year just to see if it still works.  I just wash what I use each night for my dinner in the sink.  Do not do breakfast, lunch or snacks so it is faster to hand wash.

Re: How important is your dishwasher?

An 8.....We use it everyday and love how great the dishes turn out!

We just got a new one after our old one died.  It took three months for the new one to come in once we ordered it. I didn't want to get anything that happened to be in stock so I was willing to wait.  I got used to washing dishes but I prefer to use the dishwasher.
