Re: How do you prepare your oatmeal?

Oh my gosh, I LOVE oatmeal.   When I was a little girl, my grandmother would cook it on the stove and there would always be lumps.  I used to love that!

Anyway, I mostly eat the instant these days.  My favorite is maple and brown sugar.  I find it too sweet and not enough of a portion size, so I use one pouch of that and one pouch of plain.  I mix them together and add boiling water from the stove.  Just enough to wet and mix it.  I like a super thick oatmeal, where if I turned the spoon upside down, it would stick!  I add just a touch of milk to loosen it up a bit, then enjoy.  Mmmm.  Now I'm craving oatmeal!

@Citrine1 the lumps were the best part, lol.  My siblings and myself would fight over them and make sure no one got more than the other.

@Tinkrbl44    Hmmm, never thought of a splash of flavored coffee creamer.  I like steel cut oats with a few chopped walnuts and maybe a teaspoon of brown sugar or maple syrup.  I do like mine thick.  Maybe sweet Italian cream.  I have it more in the fall and winter months.

I eat it plain, I don't care for flavors in it.

The instant packet stuff gives me heartburn.

@CelticCrafter  The plain oats in a package don't give me heartburn but some of the flavored ones do. I just make plain oats on the stove of from a package and add what I like to it.

Re: How do you prepare your oatmeal?

Every morning I cook old-fashioned oats on the stove - really dislike the instant kind because I like my oatmeal a bit chewy.  I add water and Splenda at first, then some skim milk towards the end of the five minute cooking time.  Top with either a banana or strawberries and blueberries.  Can't start the morning without my oatmeal.

Eating oatmeal mixed with water would be like eating cereal with water to me. Couldn't do it.

Re: How do you prepare your oatmeal?

Well, I eat my oatmeal as homemade granola that I sprinkle over my yogurt and fruit.

Steel cut oats are chewy with a nicer texture than old fashioned oats which can get a little thick and gluey.  I like it with ham or cooked bacon added to it with a light drizzle of maple syrup.  Oats are high carb and some protein added to it slows down the blood sugar spike.

I use steel cut oats cooked with water.  I really like the coarse chewy texture. It takes half an hour to cook but I make 8 servings.  When it cools I cut it into 8 pieces.  I eat it mixed with a spoon of peanut butter and cinnamon.  It keeps well in the fridge.

I need more details. Care to go step to step? How much oats? How much water? .How is this being cooked? Thx!

Re: How do you prepare your oatmeal?

I have had an aversion to oatmeal since I was a baby. It has remained totally unappealing to me; however! several years ago I learned to bake it with fruit (apples, cinnamon and nuts or a berry medley). I use 1 tbls of pure maple syrup and 1 tsp of vanilla extract to add a little sweetness. I really enjoy it prepared this way. It provides me with apprx 6 servings. I usually add a dollop of cocoyo. Sometimes it's my breakfast and sometimes my dessert!

Re: How do you prepare your oatmeal?

My current recipe is to prepare a bowl (oats and water) in the microwave on power level 5.  A slower process that takes four to five minutes, but produces a creamier texture.  And no boil-over. Woman LOL

I'll remove it from the microwave a couple times to give it a stir and check the texture.

When I feel it's right, I add cinnamon, New Mexico honey and a splash of heavy whipping cream.
