I have an unopened quart of buttermilk.

It has been in the back of my fridge since I purchased it.

Never opened. I hate to waste it, but the expiration date was two weeks ago.

Does anyone know how I can tell if it's still good?

That's a real tuffy! My mom loved buttermilk and tried to get me to drink it. I always thought you should just pour it down the sink it tasted so bad!

I buy a qt. divide up in 3 containers to the cup level and freeze. Always have on hand.

That's a good idea, Sharke. I was sure I was going to use it, but life got in my way.

I have to make scones tomorrow and thought it might still be good. It's hard to tell when it has gone bad, since it is already sour by nature. It looks and smells normal to me, but I guess I just need to toss it out.

Yes! You can freeze milk. When I buy extra milk (today because of approaching snow), I freeze it (put a gallon in the freezer this morning) and then put it in the fridge to thaw. It keeps the milk fresher longer. I use skim milk, so I don't know if other milk performs the same way, but I think it does.

It's still good if it's only 2 weeks past the date. The date is just a guide for the stores on when they have to pull the product, it doesn't mean it is spoiled or will make you sick.

It's fine, it's buttermilk, which is soured, cultured milk. Two weeks past sell by date in an unopened container has not hurt this product at all. I would absolutely use this product without a second thought.

When buttermilk goes bad it gets thick with curds. It can also get moldy.

I sure wouldn't use it. You should have froze it.
