Re: *** How To Store Cheese ***

@Toots711 .............Mom would store cheese in the butcher paper that it came in.  She wrapped it lightly and put a dish towel over that.  Also she and dad told me cheese is supposed to be stored and eaten at room temperature and she did not store it in fridge.  Did the article say anything about that?

We use our Foodsaver - Fresh Saver bags that can be opened and re-sealed without having to cut off any of the bag.  Works great for chunk or sliced cheese.

@Imaoldhippie The graphic above says cheese domes make good kitchen decor which led me to believe you should store your cheese on the counter in a dome.

Re: *** How To Store Cheese ***

I've read this before and tried storing a block of cheese wrapped in waxed paper in the cheese drawer of the frig.  Still got moldy.  Not impressed with waxed paper.  Haven't tried parchment paper nor the vinegar on a paper towel trick.  No way do I store any food item on the kitchen counter except for bananas since I live in Florida.  If I lived up north, way up north, I would no longer have to  refrigerate onions, potatoes, bread, apples, oranges and the like.  I could store butter in one of those butter keeper thingies on the counter and cheese in a cheese dome.

An estimated 700,000 people around the world, 400,000 of them children, have died so far due to the discontinuation of the USAID program.

Re: *** How To Store Cheese ***

Long-lasting cheese is not anything I usually have. I'm a cheese-a-holic and it's not safe in my home. I know I shouldn't be, but I am what I am. I've always heard to take a pat of butter and spread it on the surface before storing it in a plastic or glass container. Not sure if it works but I always do it when I purchase a block of cheese.

@Toots711

I also appreciate your post about cheese storage.

I tried to get my husband to use parchment years ago, but it didn't take so-to-speak.

Luckily, we go through cheese pretty fast and I only buy a small amount at a time. Cat Very Happy
