Evening all, Just back from craft club. I took the copy cat Olive Garden soup with Italian sausage and kale by request. Very little left, maybe 2 servings. We chose our projects for the year and signed up for hostess. Busy day tomorrow. Night all.

Re: Hey it's September - What's Cooking???

I need to go back through our posts and say hi to one and all and hopefully they will return. Will try and get that done later today. What would be super nice if the originator of this thread would post again. Rabbit, I know where you are and would sure love to see you back here. You have been away too long and it would be super nice to have you say when and why you started this thread. Rabbit - now come on back and bring your original followers also. Now we would still like everyone to come back. Please. Smile'

Temps are rising again - will be well over triple digits and the humidity is suppose to be quite miserable again. This Sunday is suppose to be the worse - we shall see.

Have a load in the washer - yep, it's early, but this is when I wash. Less pull on electricity is the main reason. They do NOT like you doing heavy duty things with electricity when all the ACs are running. Some days, like this past Monday, they sent out a save electricity notice - NO USAGE between 2 and 6 p.m. They even suggest you unplug TVs and computers - any and all electrical appliances that run to some degree even when not in use. I think I did good this past Monday - do not know yet when the next day will pop up. Last summer they were unreasonable as they requested it day after day after day and I could not do it every single day - not all the way. I tried and got really sick. This year they are being more reasonable about it. Still hard to do but I give it a whirl.

Today being Sept. 11th, is an unhappy day of memories. And here we are all these years later still dealing with terrorists - unbelievable!!!

Had a great roast, green beans and mashed taters night before last. Last night I had lunch at church so did NOT cook - everyone was left on their own to eat. Those frozen dinners are getting a workout. LOL.

Tonight? Probably chicken of some kind - slow cooker of course.

Hope one and all are having a great day.

Re: Hey it's September - What's Cooking???

Morning All, WOW sure cooled off last nite, (sorry Winifred) great sleeping weather, house is cool this AM, will have to get out my sweats lol

Last nite was marinated salmon from Costco , bought it from the reviews on the forum, very good & a quick dinner, baked potato, salad & done, did see a yummy recipe for chicken thighs on another post, might try that.

Tonite, don't know yet, will check the freezer or the grocery store when I get there, moving slow today, just feels good to not have to rush into something or somewhere to be.

Hope you're all doing well & behaving yourselves

Take Care

Re: Hey it's September - What's Cooking???

Spix, it was good sleeping here last night also AFTER about 11 o'clock - up until then it was miserable. This morning's news is ALL ABOUT heat stroke, etc. Our temps starting today will be running 10 to 15 degrees ABOVE normal for this time of year - and it has been such a miserable summer as it is. We are suppose to have a full week of this - and unfortunately it is the humidity that will drive people insane. Have never seen such a constant chatter on the news about staying cool and staying OUT of the heat unless it is early morning or early afternoon. Not looking forward to the next few days and I suspect there will be some electrical outages. The is the first time I have seen or heard our weather people go on and on about humidity - mentioning it out here was a no no since I came here in 1960 - but the weather has changed in recent years. Just plain miserable.

What for dinner? Probably should throw some chicken on the barbeque but have no desire to sit out there and swelter while doing it. May be a good time to put some on and let the teens turn it and check on it - I can look out the window to make sure they do it right. LOL. Last night we had some great spaghetti and garlic bread toast - almost every bit of it was eaten up - that is Davey's favorite food. I could not believe that it was almost all gone. Geesh. I always make a lot - for more than one meal - not this time I guess - too many hungry people here.

Hope all have a great day - stay cool one and all.

Re: Hey it's September - What's Cooking???

Afternoon,

Was gone most of the day, yesterday. Went with 2 gal friends to a landscaping/nursery/gift shop/ café. We spent 2 1/2 hours wondering around there. Had lunch and made some purchases.

I made chili last night, seems like the thing to have with weather in the 60's. It was very good. I have that old recipe that I've posted here before, really like it. I can always count on it to turn out well.

Tonight, we are going out with friends. The fellows went smelt. There is a smelt fry once a year at a local tavern. Neither of us women like the smelt. It is a small fish, about the size of a sardine, that they deep fry.

Not sure what I'll order, maybe a hamburger. Usually can't go wrong with a hamburger. My friend likes her wine so may join her with a wine. But that is iffy at a bar.

Keep cool, Winifred. Teenagers are hard to fill up with food.

Spix, glad to hear from you.

Re: Hey it's September - What's Cooking???

Really cool here today, but supposed to get warmer in a few days, 70's, wish we have that for awhile

Last nite made Lola's "Chicken (thighs) mushroom skillet" really good & easy, served it over rice, which I made tons of so tonite will be chicken soup, good for this weather, & like Soushi, chili will be soon, like to make lots, then freeze for future meals in a hurry.

Winifred what's going on with Stripes, hope he's behaving himself

Preds, your pix keep getting better & better

Vabreeze, la mommy, brewhaha, c'mon back it's so good to hear from you

Take care all

Re: Hey it's September - What's Cooking???

Spix, Stripes is behaving - somewhat. Last night, however, he was no where in sight but am sure he will be outside shortly begging for his breakfast. He did spend most of the morning inside yesterday as it was really hot. He HAD to go outside about noon however and he obviously went and found somewhere with some cool areas - such as the gutted house across the street. LOL. Day before he hung out here all day long and also spent that night inside. He is slowing down but still has that tremendous independent streak. Wish he was not as independent as he likes to be but finally took a deep breath and realized I would not be able to keep him home as much as I would like nor as much as he use to stay home.

Yesterday another great grand came by - I do not see her often - from up in the high desert. We had hot dogs on the grill - I did NOT cook them, too hot outside - with potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob and broccoli salad. Everyone ate well so the food was obviously enjoyed. Today? Suppose to be even hotter - do not even want to think about it.

Have a great day everyone - stay cool - we are suppose to swelter, and I mean awelter for three more days. The experts say today will be the worse - we shall see.
