Sunday I decided to try a new recipe. It was a stew type dinner that you started on the stove, transferred to the oven to cook for an hour, then added flour and water to it and baked for another 30 minutes to thicken it. Serve with mashed potatoes.
I don't like to use flour as a thickening agent because I've had it turn gummy and clump up on me. I much prefer to use corn starch. So when the time came, I mixed "corn starch" and water together and dumped it into the pan. But when I put it in the pan, it fizzed up!
I was looking at the pan trying to figure it out and realized instead of grabbing my corn starch, I grabbed baking soda! There went that pan of stew right down the drain.
