On 10/20/2014 nightwired said: If bringing hot meals will be a frequent thing, you may want to invest in a cooler/warmer. I have one made by Coleman. It plugs into a cigarette lighter/accessory plug in the car. It also came with an AC adapter to use in the house. Plug the cord in one way and it keeps things warm. Reverse the plug and it cools. A 9x12 dish fits perfectly in the bottom with room on top for stacking two more at least. I do wrap the dishes in a towel and have found this keeps things so warm that I remove things from my home oven a few minutes before completely done to let it finish in the warmer. I never have had to reheat; in fact it has to cool a bit when we get there. A food thermometer shows it is a safe temp for eating. We often have family potlucks that are an hour away and I found this so helpful.
Wow, that's great advice! I'm sure that'd come in handy for a lot of people. Thanks!

Don't bring something you find in the grocery store that needs warmed up
How boring.
Home cooked meal will brighten your relatives spirit and it shows love and care.
A casserole that you make ahead and heat up or even cook when you arrive. Just don't buy some prepackaged junk from fast food or other. It says so little and tastes so bad
((
2 hour drive in fall & winter won't be a problem - unless you R in Florida or a very warm part of the country. However, there R so many ways to keep food cold while traveling.

Just a thought, but tightly wrapped in newspaper, an carried in brown paper bag may help to insulate it and keep it hot. We used to do this. Don't remember for how long it stayed that way, but it used to work.

Get a/some insulated food carriers. Amazon has a bunch of them. Here on the Q there are some also, Walmart. Many places, also Bed, Bath & Beyond. Do a web search for insulated thermal food carrier. They come in different shapes and have the Shiny silver lining (Not the dull silver lining) inside to keep things hot or cold. Pyrex has a set that comes with them but their site may have just the carriers.

This is not what you asked for but....maybe someone here can use this company.
There is a company called MagicKitchen.com. They send out full frozen home cooked meals anywhere in the USA. With deserts!
They have special orders if you need them ,like for dialysis or diabetes, vegetarians, ect.
They also have delicious regular meals too.You can choose what you like or get set up packages for 1 -2-3-4 people.
Many people use them to send meals to elderly parents or home bound people or as gifts for funerals, births ,illnesses ,ect.
I get a delivery monthly myself. It comes FedEx.
The food is great. It only needs to be microwaved. Everything comes with cooking directions and all pertanent info on the package, regaurding calories ,ingredients ,ect, even so much as telling you to put it on a dish.......lol
I love this company. The CS is wonderful and accomadating.
Check out their website.
