I would suggest storing them by use, pie spices together, chili together, soup spices, etc. That way you can just go for the section as you use them or....ALPHABETICAL, as long as you know the name of the spice. I have these jars I got from chefs catalog that are solid, so the spices aren't broke down by light, and store them on a hanging type shelf. The magnetic ones are great too!

Mine are alphabetical.
This picture is deceiving, they look so wide in it, but they are just small jelly jars. I use a paint pen to mark them. If they get cruddy I just get a new one and toss it in the dishwasher.

That is a great idea and inexpensive! You will have so many choices in size from the small, flat ones, to the ornate ones.

Spice box at Amazon. You can stack them in the cabinet and are air tight.

I've got 3 of these, stacked diagonally in the corner of my countertop. Each one holds 30 of the 1/4 cup size Penzey jars. You can fit another row of 6 in there, but you'd never get the back ones out without removing the jar in front of it. I labeled the tops of the jars, so that I don't have to dig through them to find what I'm looking for. I keep the larger Penzey jars in the wall cabinet, above. Refill bags are stored in a couple of Snapware containers in my pantry. Yes, I am a spice hoarder.
Edit: Actually, mine are a little wider than the one linked above. I purchased mine in the BB&B store and they have 6 rows across and are 13" wide. This pic looks like it only holds 4 across, but it should still work. Bring an empty jar with you, if you go to check them out.

Thanks, everyone. You've given me quite an array of solutions. I'll check BB&B and see what they have. I want to utilize what little space I have and still have the spices at my fingertips to use. I also think that I should clean out my spices since, I'm sure, many of them are over 1 year old. I will buy the smaller jars from now on except for the spices I use on a regular basis. Maybe Penzeys should come up with a solution and invent a spice keeper. It seems all the "nice" looking ones don't hold many jars. I also like the idea of separating my spices according to usage (baking spices, Mexican spices, all purpose spices, etc). Once again, thanks for your help.

My spices outgrew the cabinets. This type is great for spice storage. The most used spices go on the top, oils and vinegars go on the bottom, everything else in between. The short bottles get stacked. It takes up more wall space than floor space.
