Re: Have you ever made freezer jam?

My sister makes the freezer jam and I think it tastes very good. It's more like fresh fruit than the old fashioned jam.

I make homemade apple butter, with and without sugar. It's very easy to make, but very time consuming. It has to cook for hours. This is the time of year to make it, You need apple cider and fresh apples.

I also make the traditional jam in strawberry, raspberry and grape. I use the leftover grape pulp to mix with homemade applesauce.

Applebutter is easy to make. I found a recipe for making it in the crockpot, and do so when we make homemade applesauce. Then can it, and it lasts a good while.

Re: Have you ever made freezer jam?

Just made peach freezer jam last month. We got fresh peaches from Colorado. It's easy to make & really good. DH's dad sure does like it. We gave him several jars. This site online has all kinds of info. I use it it quite a bit. This link is to their apple butter.

Re: Have you ever made freezer jam?

All these references to apple butter just brought back a memory from my childhood! When I was small, we lived in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, sort of in the country. I can remember my Mom and her sisters making apple butter in a huge kettle hung over an outdoor fire -- there were apple trees all around. I haven't thought about that in almost more years than I can count! Isn't it funny what triggers our memories sometimes - and such a pleasant memory!Smile

Thank you Nightowlz for the link!! It's always very nice when another poster shares with everyone else! Fantastic site!! I have quite a bit of pears this year (from my trees) and will make pear butter with them! If I can find a place around my area that sells apples at a decent price, I will try the apple butter too! Thanks again for a great site!
