Re: Have You Gotten Tough Fresh Green Beans?

I am quite happy with either Le Sueur Whole canned green beans or Allen's Italian flat green beans, or occasionally shelly green beans.  I also like Le Sueur green peas and can eat them right out of the can.

Frozen green beans aren't very good, and store bought fesh ones aren't either.  So I save myself the trouble.

Re: Have You Gotten Tough Fresh Green Beans?

I’ve cooked several pots of green beans this year they have all been delicious, they came out of a neighbors garden and was half runner green beans except the last pot they were blue lake
Those came from the local farmers market , one woman there had rattlesnake green beans I’d never heard of those and didn’t buy them

After reading this, it dawned on me that we eat more broccoli, cauliflower, fresh greens, salads, brussel sprouts, tomato, peppers, eggplants, dried beans and zucchini now than green beans and corn.

Our habits have changed a lot in the last 10 years.  We still like green beans canned, but only eat then when we're lazy or in a hurry.

The rattlesnake green beans certainly look different, but taste just as good.  My MIL grew a pole bean variety of them which was very productive; picking beans growing from your waist to above your head was a lot easier than bending over multiple rows 10' long!

Please let me know how you like them.  I've never heard of them.  Thanks.

Re: Have You Gotten Tough Fresh Green Beans?

I recently started roasting my green beans in the oven per my daughters suggestion, they are very good that way.  A little olive oil and salt...yummm.

Re: Have You Gotten Tough Fresh Green Beans?

I went to the farmers market today the person selling the rattlesnake beans didn’t have any they are gone for the year
In fact there wasn’t ANY green beans of any variety available at all
It’s been so extremely hot and dry here everyones bean vines have died or the deer has ate them all
Hopefully next year I’ll be able to try them
