HELP!! NordicWare Tender Cooker

I bought the NordicWare Tender Cooker a few months ago and am just now getting around to using it. Here's my problem: I cannot get the lid to lock.

I don't know if it's because I'm not strong enough or the gasket isn't sitting right but I can't get it to turn into the lock position.

I took off the gasket and I can get it into the lock position but it has to have the gasket for cooking.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanking you in advance.
