Re: Growing tomatoes question.....

I remember several years ago trying these hanging gardens. Beware, they get VERY heavy and rip out even heavy duty hooks, etc. I now have raised garden beds and love them.

Re: Growing tomatoes question.....

I tried a couple. They were so heavy I could only fill half with dirt. End of experiment, only got a few small tomatoes because of lack of sun where I hung them.

Re: Growing tomatoes question.....

I bought my "topsy turvy" after visiting Epcot. There's an exhibit there-I think it's called "The World of Tomorrow" and there is a fascinating horticultural section where everything is grown upside down. Of course they use ties and supports, but not to extremes. I had no reason not to believe that it wouldn't work....

Getting back to what does work, Gardener's Supply has some very inexpensive "Earth Box" small planters that are designed just like the Earth Box and they have some wonderful planting mediums.

I received the latest Earth Box catalog and they are making small boxes too: perfect for small patios and small areas-and they even have organic growing mediums which I'm sure are excellent.

This is an aside, but has anybody grown potatoes in a bag? I think I'm going to buy a couple from Gardener's Supply. They are also selling a "multi-pack" of seed potatoes and there are all kinds of varieties. When the plants flower, they are beautiful and they are fun to watch.

Another fun veggie to grow in a deep container are carrots-and their greenery is so pretty.

Tomorrow it's going to rain, but I bought a herb kit-I'm going to put that together and do some planting!
