Re: Grocery Home Delivery

[ Edited ]

@x Hedge

I have used Instacart from our local grocery store chain here in Texas, HEB.....It was $99 for the year which comes out to $8.25 a month no matter how many times you order, and tipping is optional.....They deliver on time, and are professional and courteous.  I usually give a tip, and do it online when I get the survey and rate their service.

I have been very pleased with the service.  Now this chain charges different prices depending on the part of the city you live in, so for deliveries, they average out the pricing...some items are identical to my nearest store, and some are slightly higher, but they do let you use coupons and take advantage of specials too.....Basically the service I use gives you access to whatever is in the store they shop from. (and when Im not using the delivery service and shopping in the store, I see the Instacart shoppers in their special t-shirts and carts -- so they are picking up things and shopping just as if you were at the store)  Now I do know that on Mondays a lot of things are out of stock because lots of people do their grocery shopping on the weekends....so I have learned  not to order on Mondays.......

I find it very convenient especially for the heavy items like the 30 lb bag of cat litter and the large bags of cat food, the heavy bottle of laundry detergent etc etc.....You can specify what you prefer as far as veggies and give special instructions, but I usually go to a local Farmers Market for my produce anyway.....

. When you place an order on their APP, you can also indicate a replacement item if something is out of stock.  They will also call and text you if an item is out of stock. You can also provide any special instructions on any item.

I dont use them every week, it just depends on what I need or want. Sometimes I do like to go to the store and pick things up myself.

Maybe different grocery store chains and different parts of the country have a different set up.....

I have tried grocery home delivery, but not a fan.  I agree with the OP's comments.

I would use if I absolutely had to.

Another thing I don't like is seeing many grocery store parking lots that have reserved parking for grocery pickup.  99% of the time when I'm at the store no one is using those spots.

A lot of parking wasted.  Then I have to park way out in the lot.

Also, despise the self-checkout lanes.

I wish all grocery stores would have the cart "rental" just like Aldi's.  It's so nice to drive in a parking lot and NOT have to dodge grocery carts.

A grocery store here gave a large section of prime parking spaces to curbside pickup customers....This didn't sit well with in-store shoppers....the store got so many complaints they moved the curbside and their parking to way in the the very back of their lot, and in-store shoppers got the good parking spots back...

I've ordered from Costco on 3 occasions. I love clicking items on-line and having it delivered by Instacart. I enjoy shopping at Costco every 5 weeks - but sometimes, it's a little too much for me. Other times, I go to the small Walmart and pick up other items.
