Genius food chopper

Anybody else have trouble with the push to clean lid depositing rusted metal spring pieces in your salad? We took the top apart and there are 4 springs that push the cleaning plate down. They were rusted and broken and I have never put the top in the dishwasher. Mine is about 2 years old and has had a lot of use - I really loved it until I almost broke a tooth! Qvc gave me the number for Genius and I called and talked to a person who gave me an email address to write to but I have not had a reply. If you have one, beware of this!
