I have what I consider be ideal--a gas cook top and a double electric wall oven , one of which is convection.

I didn't design it this way.  It was in the house already.

I have the same except both wall ovens are convection (which I never use!!)

I had electric my whole life.  In building our third and final home, I 'thought' I must switch to a gas cooktop...after all, it is on ALL the cooking/home shows.

Honestly, MEH.  For me, it has not been the phenomenal cooking experience I envisioned.  I could take it or leave it. Water takes just as long to boil!  My cooktop is large, maybe I went too industrial!  LOL

My electrics worked just as well and the glass tops were much easier to clean than these large grates.  I have a hard time getting just a nice low 'warm' with gas.

At least I haven't set my robe sleeve on fire, yet!  I could be happy with either gas or electric.

Now double ovens?? THAT is a dream come true!

I grew up with an electric stove and then have had gas since.  The difference is unbelievable!  It is so much easier to burn and over cook or bake with an electric.  With a gas stove and oven, things come out way better.  With an electric we could only make one tray of cookies at a time but with gas I can make 2 large trays and they come out perfect - every single cookie.  If you use a large tray with an electric oven then the edge cookies are way browner and often burnt than the middle of the tray.  Also I can't even count the many times I was burned on a burner that was turned off on the electric stove.  When you turn off a gas burner - it is off and will not burn you nor will it keep cooking what is in the pan.  I bake a lot and need the control that a gas stove/oven allows.

I have a gas cooktop and double electric convection wall ovens. To me this is the best of both worlds. I have burned too many things (including myself) on electric cooktops. If I were buying a new house an electric stovetop would be a dealbreaker.

I always had electric till we moved to a new home and have gas....we definitely prefer gas.

I have a propane cooktop and electric ovens (a large range.)  There are no gas lines in my area so we have propane.

I grew up with a completely electric range, and before we moved I had all electric ranges too.  I prefer my current propane/electric range.

I have had both.  I prefer electric.  There are nuances to all sorts of cooking.  I like the better and larger contact with the cooking vessel with electric.  I just build in the residual heat on the back end - turn it off and let the cooking continue, or turn it off and keep the food warm while you get other things served up.

This doesn't really influence my decision (there is not a gas line to my house) but I've had CO poisoning from a natural gas furnace and was in a propane explosion, in a camper.  Gas is more volatile, IMO.  I'd use it if it were here, but I am not unhappy that it is not.

Re: Gas or Electric Stoves

[ Edited ]

Growing up in the NYC area we always had gas.  Now living in a condo in Chicago with an electric stove.  MUCH prefer gas.  In fact, if we could find a similar apartment to what we have that had a gas instead of electric stove it would be a big incentive for me to move.

My development has always been total electric.  At one point, they took a poll of the homeowners to see how many wanted gas brought to the area.  Not enough interest.   I prefer gas, but feel safer with electric.

I've had both. I think it partially depends on the brand. The first electric stove I hated. It was just awful. I had multiple gas stoves after that and really liked them, Now in this house There was already a Jenn Air electric stove and I really like it. I actually like the fact that I can cook or bake whatever I want no matter if it's summer or winter. It really doesn't seem to heat up the kitchen like my gas ones. Mine is old so I know I'm in for a shock when I have to replace it. All the reviews on the newer brands seem to be mixed. If I had to pick one, then I actually think I would choose the electric this time.

We had an electric stove once and couldn't wait to change it out for gas. We couldn't stand not having the control.

In our current house we a five-burner gas stovetop and two wall-mounted electric ovens. Perfect. We also like our Breville convection toaster oven.

BTW, gas is perfectly safe.
