Never defrost on the counter- only in the fridge.

Re: Frozen Turkey Breast

[ Edited ]

You are supposed to thaw them in the refrigerator.  In our refrigerator it would take four days at least.  I prefer to place the turkey breast in a large bowl of cold water in the sink or counter top.  I leave mine in the packaging until it is completely thawed.  I also change the water a couple of times.  I do this all the time and have had no problems.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Google thawing a turkey in clold water.  Lots more info there.  It's safe you just have to make sure the water temp stays really cold.

@I am still oxox:  Here is what i found on all recipes:

2. Medium: Thaw in Cold Water

Timeline: Allow approximately 30 minutes for every pound of turkey. A 10-pound bird will take about 5 hours to thaw completely.

Tips for cold-water thawing:

  • Keep the turkey in its original wrapping, and place it in a larger, leak-proof plastic bag. Squeeze out extra air and seal the bag.
  • Place the sealed bag breast-side down in a sink or bucket large enough so the turkey will be completely submerged. Fill with cold water. You may need to cover the turkey with a plate and place some heavy cans on top of it to keep it totally submerged. Change the cold water every 30 minutes.
  • Cook the turkey immediately after thawing.

We always cook turkey breast since we don't care for the dark meat.

I have always thawed it in a sink of cold water with no problems ever.

I don't have room in my refrigerator to wait for it to thaw before I can cook it.

Says online it will take about 30 mins per lb to thaw so about 4 hrs.

It also says to change the water every 30 mins but I have never done that. The water stays cold because it has a frozen turkey in it. Duh!!!

Nobody has ever got sick from eating our turkey.

I have been buying frozen turkey breast for years. Thaw it in the refrig. Don't sit it out on the counter. I have one that is almost 8 pounds for this year. It probably will still be a little frozen tomorrow. If so, I'll run it under cold water for a while and then pat dry.

We decided yesterday to have our meal today.   I let our 8 lb turkey breast thaw in water overnight and popped it in the oven at 10:30 this morning.   We’re eating at 1:00 as my girls are leaving at 2:00.

I bought a turkey breast this year and the recommendation on the package was thaw in fridge for 2 days so I moved it from the freezer into the fridge early yesterday morning.
