Really? My opinion is ""nasty"". Do U live in a glass house? U R too thin skinned for this world lady. With so many posts U don't get out much do U?

Glad you (or should I say U) are so proud of your opinions.

I can't imagine thinking making mashed potatoes is such a chore! Its so EASY! All the mess of peeling is in the sink. You rinse, turn on your garbage disposal, walla done! I can't stand all the sodium added to the store bought mashed potatoes. Yuck.

Peeling isn't easy with finger arthritis........ Ore-Ida Steam and Mash contain 260mg of sodium per small serving, so less than traditional salted mashed potatoes, and very manageable for my low sodium eating.

I was going to say the same thing. Making mashed potatoes is not as easy for some as it is for others, either because of physical issues, time constraints, or whatever else. (And not everyone has garbage disposals!)

Homemade is not difficult - I agree with that. And nothing tastes as good. But sometimes we need shortcuts, and for me TJ's is an acceptable shortcut.

ITA, it is not so much that can't make potatoes, or that it is hard. Sometimes it is just a time saver, and it can make a meal special. I may brine a turkey breast in summer, and roast it, throw a few veggies in to roast. Then I get the Trader Joe's mashed potatoes out, and some Hains gravy, and it just makes it special, to my husband anyway. if company is coming or I have to make the potatoes for an event, then I get the real stuff out, and start peeling!

BTW, Pioneer Woman has an excellent make ahead mashed potato recipe. I love it. You can make it days before the event. Then you can freeze portions if you want.

I've used Trader Joe's in a pinch, and they are fine. Not as good as homemade, but ok

We had some homemade mashed potatoes left over. We froze them in 2 serving individual containers. We recently thawed one container and found the product to be great.

Bob Evans (the restaurant) sells delicious pre-made mashed potatoes and they are sold in the refrigerated section of Kroger, Publix, and Wal-mart. There are a variety of choices (like sour cream and chives or cheddar) For the amazing taste and convenience, we rarely feel it is worth the extra effort to make mashed potatoes from scratch anymore. The 'original' flavor is our favorite. Maybe you could give them a try. They also make an excellent macaroni and cheese.

I like these too. We also get the original.

Re: Frozen Mashed Potatoes- Any experience pro or con?

violann, you don't need another plug for the frozen mashed potatoes lol, but I will add one anyway. I haven't used them in at least 12 years, but I remember when I first did - WOW! I was a busy mom of young kids, caretaker for an elderly person, working full time, and I pulled out that bag from the freezer and heated them up in the microwave, and everyone raved about the dinner. I was never one to use pre-fab food, so this was like magic! And good! Especially for the harried person that I was. I bet they are even better nowadays.

I'm sure you are not the type of person to use pre-fab food industry food, but now and then it can relieve a bit of stress. Smiley Happy - Bird

P.S. BTW I no longer mash potatoes. I just buy organic, leave the skins on, and smash them. But, I can see that for company you might want to do it nicer. Smiley Wink

By far,the best I've ever had....and they are usually on sale. (in the refrigerated section)

I add butter and heat on low heat on the stove top, till heated thru.

Delicious....and no one will know the difference.

Traditional Mashed Potatoes

I've never even seen these. Where do you buy them? I only have a Kroger or Walmart to shop at. Maybe I've seen them but didn't pay any attention as I do really like the Country Crock ones. I agree with the poster a post or two up, I didn't really care for the Bob Evans brand. But that's just me.

Lotus is correct! These are great! I bought them on the recommendation here and was not disappointed!

Since you asked, I did find them at Walmart. At my store they were near the chilled prepared foods not far from the meat dept.

Simply potatoes

These are the varieties:

Traditional
Country Style
Garlic
Sour Cream and Chive
Sweet Potatoes
Jalapeno & Cream Cheese
Parmesan Peppercorn
