I don't eat coctail sauce.  Tartar sauce for fried and either nothing or melted butter for non-fried.

Cocktail sauce on cold shrimp and tartar sauce on battered seafood and battered fried chicken. When  was a kid my mom would mix green relish and mayo .she didn't buy tartar sauce. She sometimes would bake frozen breaded square fish and make a small amount of sauce with salt and I think Italian seasoning and put it on the fish  in a hamburger bun.I use to love it.

I like them both--I love the hot cocktail sauce made with horse radish and I make my own tartar sauce--I use Ina Gartens recipe.

I have to do both with all my seafood meals, it is not the same with not having both to dip in.  However, I do you the tarter sauce more on my fried fish and the cocktail sauce more on my fried shrimp.  I never put tarter sauce on boiled shrimp, just the cocktail.  Now I am hungry.

Trader Joes has really delicious tarter sauce. Goes well with the Egg Harbor crab cakes.

Sorry, I hit post by mistake. I edited to add proportions. Hope you like it if you try the tartar sauce.

I only eat my fish broiled or baked in the oven. No breading and no sauces except butter.. My favorites are shrimp, filet of sole and salmon. High quality fish is ruined with sauces and batter. One exception, though, I will eat cold shrimp with homemade cocktail sauce. I love fresh, bought and cooked the same day seafood.🥰

I have never liked tartar sauce, and love red sauce on any fried seafood and cold shrimp.  I don't like butter on lobster either and just use a little lemon juice.

And I eat all the little pieces around and in the little legs, and sometimes eat the liver too on a cracker.  A guy in Newfoundland taught us to eat lobster.  So I can't order it in a nice restaurant if it is "on the hoof" (whole) which is my favorite!  Too messy!  Woman LOL
