Filet mignon/tenderloin tips

Do you prefer Rastelli's or Kansas City?

Re: Filet mignon/tenderloin tips

Kansas City! By far. ..in my opinion.

Ordered Rastelli last year when COVID lockdown first happened and we kind of panicked and bought some QVC frozen meats to keep on hand. We just bought quickly before sellouts started happening...it was when we all were in buying frenzy, be it food or toilet paper!

So, in my haste, I didn't realize I used to get KC not Rastelli until after I got them.

They just tasted different to me...not horrible by any means. but had a certain flavor the KC don't have. KC tasted more like the Black Angus beef I'm used to getting in the supermarket...and just more of that delcious Filet taste, to me.

I wound up using the Rastelli Filet Mignons cut up in beef stews...and they were tender and delicious in the stew.

I have not tried Rastelli's, but I am about ready to cancel the KC Steak A-D I have. The last batch were so full of fat and gristle, I felt as if I had received a cut up chuck roast. It was definitely not like any tenderloin I am used to. For the price of what it cost, I don't feel that it is cost effective with that much waste.

Good to know, but disappointing to hear. They were good in the past when we got them.

I've returned to buying my meats locally too. During lockdown it was a different story...that's when I last bought the filet mignons.

I must say...at one point we bought some filet mignons at our local casino's store, with our points...I know...but before you think that's crazy...they were the BEST filet mignons we've ever bought anywhere. Tender, good flavor, no grizzle, fat or nerves. Haven't been able to get them since pandemic...not that we've even been going up there, but sometimes bf goes just to the store, off premises, to  use money they send him in promotions, just for the groceries...might as well...same brands as in our stores.

When buying steaks online I order directly from Omaha, KC, Chicago Steak Company or your choice of vendor. Always have come  frozen solid and the selections are extensive.

I have had excellent luck from our Whole Foods meat counter.  Great butchers there and they will get what you want.

Local butcher shop is ok, but WF it turns out is better.

Neither--can't justify the high price compared to the average quality. I buy from Butcher Box and CostCo, and a local independent butcher whenever I can.

Never had Rastelli's but been on AD for Kansas ones for years.  They are not great.  So much fat on them.

When I first started using KC tips they were great.

I quit because they changed and were full of fat and gristle and difficult to eat!
