Re: Favorite Lunch Meat / Cold Cuts

Thin sliced Pastami from my grocer's deli is my favorite, but unfortunately it's become so expensive. I'm not big on turkey at all and neither is hubby, so I buy (besides pastrami) deli ham, roast beef and salami. I also love their chicken/grape salad and ham salad. Hubby likes the packaged bologna and olive/pimento loaf. And what's a meat sandwich without crispy lettuce, tomato slice, mayo and a few juicy peppercini!

@cheriere, tuna is a good source of protein and low in calories. However, I don't  know if you like but just thought I would suggest it.

Tuna is another favorite of mine, I like it mixed with a chopped hard boiled egg, chopped black olives and green onions.

Black Forest Ham thinly sliced.

It's almost impossible to find on the west coast but growing up in PA my favorite lunch meat was Lebanon Bologna.

My favorite is Prima Della Sundried Tomato Turkey, thin slice for sandwiches and salads. But I do love fried bologna sandwiches.

Re: Favorite Lunch Meat / Cold Cuts

Because of the changes I made in my diet due to a hx of Type 2 diabetes I no longer eat lunch meat/cold cuts but this post made me remember as a teen coming up in the 60's we ate a lot of lunch meat. My fav was braunsweiger on ritz crackers. Other cold cut favs included bologna and salami. Wow ! that brought back memories !

@Pezzie   You sound like me. I don't eat sandwiches for lunch.

I think that all those years taking sandwiches to school, turned me off to sandwiches.

I usually have cottage cheese with peaches or with pineapple.

Today I had cottage cheese with ak-mak sesame crackers and a glass of V-8. Sometimes, I have Greek yogurt and fresh berries.

In spring and summer, when all the wonderful fresh things are in season, I will have vegetable or fresh fruit plate with a little cottage cheese.

I only buy deli turkey, ham or roast beef about once or twice a year. My guys like it, but I'm on a low sodium diet and I'm also concerned about all the nitrates in deli meats.

I prefer to make my own tuna salad or chicken salad sandwiches or grilled cheese sandwiches, on a night when I don't want to cook.

@cheriere:  If you like hardboiled eggs, they are an easy protein snack.

I don't typically eat sandwiches but I love mortadella. It's too high in sodium so I don't eat it unless I see it on the menu at an Italian restaurant, which is rare.  I'll make a sandwich with leftover turkey at Thanksgiving or Christmas.
