Mom made the best fried chicken, ever.  She had two cast iron skillets, used crisco - solid, and cooked the chicken for an hour, with a quick sear and then slow and then the pepper gravy. My granny made the best biscuits, cast iron skillets (I have one).  She used crisco, her own butter and yeast.  All of her 15 grandchildren loved them so much.   She would make a lot of extras and kept them in the biscuit drawer of her cabinet.  First place we headed was that drawer and then her homemade jams or grandpa's honey from his bees.  Pure heaven.  Never had brown sugar biscuits.  Sounds good

i was recently chatting with a friend of mine about fried chicken. she buys this special flour called KENTUCKY KERNEL (yes, that is how it is spelled) and it is supposed to mimic KFC flour/spices. she said it makes an excellent coating. it can be purchased at walmart or on amazon. have not tried it yet, but will probably pick up a box.

we have fried chicken probably once a month and i am blaming it on my almost 78 year old mom. she LOVES popeyes and makes me go and buy it for all of us. our favorite sides are the mac and cheese, the red beans and rice, and the mashed potatoes and gravy. love the biscuits also.

if anyone goes to the delmarva beaches, there is a great place for fried chicken.....DUMSERS DAIRYLAND in ocean city, md. also noteworthy for their ice cream.

Hands down, nothing can beat Publix fried chicken.  In the summer, they come out with Sweet Tea Fried Chicken; to die for!  I short of lick the box their chicken comes in due to the fabulous crispy coating residuals, lol.
