@POOHBEAR59  I do not find it any more outrageous than the waste elsewhere.

Just last month, our local Sams Club had 2 wall freezers go out AFTER they had been fully stocked; everything in those freezers was hauled outside to dumpsters and taken to the landfill.

Why, I bet the many behind the scenes people eat the food that CAN be eaten ( like others said...hot lights, sprayed with stuff to make it appetizing, left on that table too long....THAT is tossed....)..but the stuff prepared in real time? Full of fat, sodium, chemicals, and preservatives? Why, it's indestructible!!!!!

Just think!!  They all go and grab a Lauck and Lauck ( of which millions are laying about the studio for presentations...) snap the lids shut on the food they picked ( they are air tight and water tight!!!) whereupon they go home, turn the lid upside down, and slam it into the microwave for a late night treat!!!!

As for comments about wine, I don't think they are drinking REAL wine on the QVC set ( maybe in the location shots) because they have to drive home after the show, and can you imagine T-boning some innocent car full of people and having to explain to the cops that all you had was one or two goblets of O-Leary wine, which is grown ere so tenderly in his special grape vinyards and blended to his exact specifications for taste and bouquet????

 HOW could one resist!!!

Or maybe you can relate how you sampled a few of those LITTLE bottles in the Advent Wine Box...they too are so highly crafted and exquisite...or maybe some JZ wine....surely the cops and the family of the injured or worse will understand....especially if they are foodies who watch QVC!!!

Re: FOOD PRESENTATIONS

[ Edited ]

@ManyMeows I'm not sure if it's just California or other states but they are not permitted to donate the food. A family member worked in a grocery store and was told to tell customers the food was donated. It was not, but it made the customer feel better.

If you think of the logistics and transporting food from restaurants, it would be very costly. Most of the food is perishable. You would not only need a refrigerator truck to transport but the facility must also have resources to store food.

It sounds like a great idea but it rarely happens anymore. The major problem is if someone should get sick off the food, the restaurant/store would be responsible. It's no longer worth the liability. Again, this is California law, it may vary in different states. My bet, you are being told it's donated when most of the time it is not.

@cjm61

🤔  I have worked as a volunteer for this project. It's a local project, we're not talking about mass quantities that need refrigeration and storage. Local business phone in to let us know that they have food to give on any given day. A volunteer picks up the food, transports it to the organization, and It's served immediately. Many of the people at the shelters have had little or nothing to eat all day, and the donated food is consumed immediately. No such thing as leftovers here.
