Engineered Apples Near Approval

"..is using well-known laboratory methods to insert genes designed to prevent the chemical reaction responsible for browning.

The genetically engineered (GE) traits most commonly inserted into commercial crops are tolerance to herbicides such as Monsanto's glyphosate weed killer, Roundup, and pest resistance, often via internal production of pesticides. These traits, harvested from bacteria, are controversial. And a tenacious community of opponents of GE crops, who prefer the phrase “genetically modified organism” or GMO, has emerged.

Monsanto also just had legislation passed (written by them) that they can't be sued or forced to stop planting their crops and bringing them to market-no matter what toxic consequences to people, the land, bees or other crops that are known or later discovered to have. (I guess we're the experimental hosts).

“The passing of this bill into law means that Monsanto is now immune from federal courts regarding any suspension or action on their crops that have been deemed to be dangerous to the people (or the environment).

This means crops that were approved and later found to damage the environment or the public will be immune from United States government action. Theoretically, one million studies could find that Monsanto’s latest creation was causing a massive cancer wave and under this law Monsanto could continue to peddle the crop to the public. The federal courts would (or will) be helpless to stop Monsanto, effectively giving Monsanto power over the entire branch of the US gov.”

GMO tomatoes are pretty gross, with that white pith that's about 1/4-1/3 of the tomato innards. They rot while they are still hard and develop those black (fungal?) spots on them. Yuck.
Gee, what will the apples be like? Maybe they won't have to wax them anymore. Like artificial plastic fruit. lol.
