@KatieB wrote:My Whirlpool side by side turned 23 years old this past June. Still works like a charm.
That's how old I was when my daughter was born!

My Kenmore Elite from Sears is 3 years old and very nice and reliable so far. It is a bottom drawer freezer, fridge on top single door. By the way, this happens to be made by LG.

This is what I would suggest AGAINST !!! ![]()
You have to bend down and search for stuff- things get super buried. Plus if the drawer slides are out of balance it impacts the seal when closed. The seal can be slightly off, you don't even notice - but you get a never ending build up of frost.
Yes, I had this style frig for 2 years- and just donated it to Habitat for Humanity !!! I'm happy to have my side by side again
.
Frigidaire Gallery ! Because of the relaibility of frigs these days I got Home Depot's 6 year warranty- $150 well spent. If they have to come out for the same fix 3 times I get my full purchase price refunded.

I will always buy GE or Whirlpool, period.
I will also buy the most simple, basic model of refrigerator; no ice maker or ice and water dispenser, because I will never connect to my public water supply.
If you buy a refrigerator with an icemaker in the freezer, or ice and water dispenser in the door, but have no intentions of using these features, you will still have problems with the refrigerator. It is designed to run with these features, and will try to create the water for the special functions thru condensation. You will find water inside or outside the refrigerator, caused by a clog in the drainage valve.

GE/Hotpoint here - and yes, no bells and whistles. No icemaker (though there's a hookup in the wall behind). It fits the space, is the right color, is sized just right for two people and it does the job.
Ours is freezer on top, but the nifty thing about it is the handles are recessed into the side of the doors, so nothing sticks out. For a basic fridge it looks sleek.
It's just not something I would pay alot for, if I can help it. I think this one was $599.

Maytag
Agree with others
No french doors
No Samsung or LG
Freezer on the bottom is toss of the coin.
1. Able to see all fresh food immediately and easy access.
2, Bottom Freeze = pain to put things in and out you cannot see everything. When stocking there is a rearranging lifting things in and out.

@RedTop Unless you're buying an apt size refrig- or a smaller refrig, it's very hard to find a unit these days without the water and ice maker feature. I preferred the 'clean door' look myself, but I couldn't find one to fit properly in the' refrig space' between my kitchen cabinets without these features.
Also- my refrigt has a water filter, I think most current models do. So no concerns with using tap and/(or public) water. I tend to drink a lot more water now with it right there- so win win!

I have a side by side Whirlpool in SS and really like it. It's so quiet I can hardly hear it.
