I had some beautiful strawberries and didn't want to turn the oven on or stand over the stove make custard for ice cream.
On allrecipes.com I found a recipe from Chef John.
Cleaned sliced berries and sugar pureed in a blender. Let it sit, he called it steep, for 10 minutes. Add heavy cream, milk, vanilla and a little salt and blend for 10 to 15 seconds. Pour into frozen ice cream maker and follow directions for your machine.
It was pretty good for not having a cooked custard base.

We watch Chef John, well listen to him because they never show him - only the food - on YouTube.

I've often made a delicious "ice cream" by mixing together a pint of vanilla yogurt (not Greek), sliced fruit (mango is my favorite) and Splenda to taste. I use an electric ice cream maker, the kind where you freeze the container. Simple, simple.

Chef John did a Live Chat today. Q&A. Face only. No food.
