Re: Eating Food While on Air

TV is  a good way to pass the time and there are so many channels with such varied programming these days. From travel to home renovation to animal vets to old series and movies, etc etc. - there is something besides shopping for everyone.

Re: Eating Food While on Air

Normally I'll just DVR the food shows so I can hit the "skip" button at certain times.  There are two male hosts (outside of David) that I absolutely cannot stand to listen to...or watch.  I do occasionally buy some food products through the Q, and only once have I asked for a refund.  However, I watch the presentations to listen to the presenter.....NOT a host who couldn't shovel it in faster if they used a backhoe.

It's funny - everyone knows they will act like the food is delicious, even if it really isn't.  So it's pointless to sample the offerings on air.  Yet they do, and their doing so sells more product.  Must be something psychological going on.

If it didn't sell, they wouldn't do it.  Look away, turn the sound off, talking about it means you are THINKING about the food and probably will think about it so long you will BUY some of it.  And never tell us!  That's how it works people!  Woman Frustrated

Annoying commercials sell as much as non-annoying.  The point is to get your attention and get you thinking about it.  SO, QVC's tactics are VERY successful! You can read tons of studies about advertising ploys.  Look around your house if you need confirmation they work, or notice what you take a look at when you are in the grocery store!

Remember that I Love Lucy episode when she was hired to do a cough syrup commercial and it tasted horrible and she squiched up her face when she had to keep tasting spoonful after spoonful.

@SharkE, oh, that wasn't the best part of what has to be the most-beloved classic TV comedy skit. Enjoy:

That makes me change the channel immediately.  Can't stand it.  So phony.
