Hi shoekitty,
It's also a song - "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano". That's where I know it from.
From Mission San Juan Capistrano website:
St. Josephs Day and The Return of the Swallows Celebration
Thursday, March 19, 2015
10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
St. Josephs Day and the Return of the Swallows Celebration is a world-renowned tradition celebrating the annual return of the famous swallows to Capistrano. This tradition was started by Father O'Sullivan in the 1920s at Mission San Juan Capistrano, historic California landmark and home of the swallows, and is carried each year on March 19th.

I'm from South Philly, and the school I went to was Epiphany School, and we were taught by the St. Joseph Nuns. We would have St. Patrick's day off and go to school the next day and then we would have St. Joseph's day off.

JESSA my Mom also went to Polish Catholic School. I can remember her telling me she had all of her subjects in English and Polish!! I know when everyone was talking about St Pat's Day she would always say ""Don't forget March 19 is St. Joseph's Day"". Boy does that bring back a lot of fond memories. Miss her soooo much!!.
I'm so sorry about your mom hatetoiron. I'm glad I brought back some fondmemories for you. I also tell my daughter and son about some of the customs we had back then.

I'm 100% Sicilian from Long Island and my father, brother and nephew are named Joseph, so we roll with St. Joseph in my family.
Now we just send an email (which is what we did this week), but in the past we would celebrate on the closest Sunday so all 4 grandparents could be there and we would have dessert but I don't know if we made Sfinge for St. Josephs. We may have done something else/similar as we typically only did Sfinge on Christmas Eve.
