Do you actually "brown" your ground beef

or cook the "pink" out of it?

I had a friend who put hers in water in the microwave to "cook" it for sauce or soup.

Yes, I always "brown" mine in a skillet, until the "pink" is gone.

Never heard of putting it in water and microwaving it. Smiley Surprised

It depends on if I'm going to add the beef to a recipe for additional cooking.

I think it tastes better if you brow it  .

Yes I do, always; browned food tastes good, per Chef Anne Burrell.

Yes, always.  The idea of putting it in water and into the microwave makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

@Zhills

How much browning you do will depend on the recipe and what the next steps are.

Water in the microwave sounds disgusting.   I wonder where she got such an idea.

Yes, I always brown mine. Depending on what I am using it for depends on how much I brown it. Browning it brings out the flavor, IMO.

You do know that Chef Anne Burrell passed away. Her death was ruled a suicide in July 2025. I enjoyed watching her on TV. Sad loss.

I usually brown all meats depending on what I’m cooking. I don’t use a microwave to “cook” anything.
