I love salted butter, but I don't eat a lot of it.
This thread bought me back to my childhood. My mom would make my brother and my school lunch. She'd always butter (margarine) our bread first. Bologna, liver wurst, ham you name it - bread was buttered.
We also ate sugar cereals for breakfast and stirred Nestle quik (chocolate, strawberry and banana) into our whole milk for dinner. What a bad mom. And we were rail thin.haha

We use Land of the Lake butter same as my Mom used when we were kids. I don't use much butter on anything. On baked potato, grilled cheese, noodles, rice, toast. That's about it.

Yes, I only use real butter.

@Desert Lily Yes I love butter. Use it sparingly but as you say it's heaven on some things.
Cooking / sauteing with a mix of olive oil and a touch of butter makes a big difference.

@On It wrote:Yes, I use butter in stick form and soft. I use Crisco in my chocolate chip cookies. They are thicker and chewier. I do not enjoy, crisp or brown cookies.
I use Crisco in my cookies and they're so much better. I do love butter on everything else.

@Desert Lily wrote:For several years now, the only time I've used butter is when I bake cookies and at holiday time (in turkey stuffing, etc.) I haven't used margarine in years either. If I have a sandwich, it's sans butter. I figure it's one way I've cut back on calories & cholesterol.
But, I bought some English muffins last week & bought a tub of whipped butter to use on them. Eating a toasted English muffin with butter was like heaven.
Before my BFF passed in 2019, we used to go to a favorite Italian restaurant. The bread with real butter was like a savory dessert to me.
Do you use butter?
@Desert Lily I do in small amounts. It is funny to me that people won't eat butter, but pile on the mayo and ice cream and think nothing of it.
It's all in what you like I guess, but I'm not worried about an occasional (and I do mean occasional) teaspoon or two of butter.

Like you, I only use when I bake once a year and for dressing once a year. I don't use it on anything else. On my english muffin I eat PBJ.

Yes, I keep it out on our counter in a butter keeper as well.
Nothing tastes as good as the real thing and I believe it's better for you than the substitutes. I don't eat a lot of it just because I don't eat many simple carbohydrates any more....so nothing to spread it on. ....sigh...I miss bread!

I have a slice of multigrain bread, toasted, with a cup of coffee for breakfast, every day. I put real butter on it, followed by my homemade rhubarb jam. I don't bake much anymore but I use real butter when I do. If I'm about to fry some eggs or make an omelet, I melt some butter in the pan first. I use real butter on my bread if I'm making a grilled cheese sandwich. That's about it.
