Re: Do You Remember Your First Flatware Pattern?

No I really don't.  I had a basic every day set when I got married, then I bought another (fancy) for entertaining.  I still have them but I also bought another everyday set since some of the first mysteriously disappeared.

I also inherited two sterling sets sitting in wooden boxes in the dining room from my mother....never used them.

Re: Do You Remember Your First Flatware Pattern?

I got married at the tender age of 17--in 1971  --and my mom gave me a set of silverware that she bought from the grocery stores as one of those deals where you pay so much at a time and get a piece free? It's called Danika stainless from Japan----and I still have and use it today. Still have most of the pieces as she got me a lot, even serving pieces too. And they are hefty and heavy duty. Think I can still buy pieces too.

Yes.  The pattern is Vidland, Oneida flatware.  I still have it and use it everyday.  Let's say it is about 55 years old.  My mother got all her friends and my aunts to send in a little coupon from women's magazines where you could get a place setting for a couple of bucks. A fond memory of days gone by.

I also had Vinland!  And I still use it today.  I bought it with Betty Crocker coupons.  It is very similar to the Oneida Nordic Crown pattern.

And like the OP, I started with white Corelle.  I now have 16 dinner plates that I use at the lake house.  Great with the grandchildren.

No, I have no idea.  It was something inexpensive and probably from the S&H Stamp store or the settings you could buy at the grocery store based on your purchase amount.

@haddon9 What are the patterns?  How neat!  We have a heavy drinking glass with a few sterling larger spoons and gumbo or cream soup spoons on the counter and grab them to eat with!  The forks are better and the spoons bigger and better than the stainless ones.

We even put those in the dishwasher sometimes--not touching stainless!--or just rinse and dry them after use.  I love using them, hubby likes that they are bigger!  Woman LOL

Re: Do You Remember Your First Flatware Pattern?

Now I'm going to have to dig out the bag that my gram's silver is in-buried in the blanket chest at the foot of my bed! And my mom's silver in the cedar box on top of the dining room cupboard, my father's brother gifted it to them as a wedding gift in 1945 or so. He owned a jewelry store but the silver is 'plate' . . . LOL . . . my mom never forgave him for that!

My mom had a set of Oneida My Rose flatware that she obtained slowly in that fashion. For years it was the "only for good" silverware. I now use it for everyday. It's held up beautifully through the years. It really is amazing stuff.

My first flatware was Cornation and maybe by Oneida. It was 1974.

I have my mother's Oneida Coronation.  It is silverplate and I love it.  But I only use it on Thanksgiving and use her china, also.  I always understood that that flatware pattern came out in the early 1950's in honor of Queen Elizabeth's coronation.

[ Edited ]

I also had Paul Revere and I finally tired of it and donated it.  I have had 2 different patterns since then.

My mother had Coronation and we only used that on special occasions,

Sweet memories!

I also had service for 8 plus serving pieces of Gorham Chantilly but I gave it to my niece a few years ago. She loves it!
