My husband and I were talking today and laughed because neither of us can remember when we bought salad dressing. We decided it must have been at least 10 years ago.
We have no standard recipe, just good olive or a neutral oil with about a third portion of acid such as lemon juice or vinegar. We'll sometimes add Dijon mustard, herbs of some sort, garlic, honey, balsamic or Sherry vinegar, parm or blue cheese, a little yogurt or on rare occasions a couple teaspoons of mayo. Of course salt and pepper.
But we just make it often and throw in whatever whim we have or gear it to specific food we're making.
Are you a dressing maker too? If so what do you add?

@Sooner Like you, I make my own salad dressing. I use Greek olive oil that I get from my hairdresser. He and his brothers own olive groves in Greece and he brings bottles here every year.
I use red wine vinegar with the olive oil. When I make a Greek
dressing, to the olive oil, and vinegar, I add fresh lemon juice,
fresh garlic, Dijon mustard and oregano and fresh ground pepper.

@Sooner It is wonderful olive oil. Of course, Yianni (my hair
stylist) says that his is the best. I have purchased some bottles to give as gifts to people who like to cook and appreciate the best ingredients.

There are several pre-made salad dressings I love.
Paul Newman's Balsamic Salad dressing.
Girard's Greek with feta cheese
Copy cat of Carraba's Caesar
My own simple Thousand Island. No pickles.

l like olive oil and balsamic vinegar on my salad. Add some salt and pepper, and I'm happy. Don't want any of the additives that come with commercial dressings. However... I have to buy 3 or 4 different bottles of dressings for Mr. Shoes. He doesn't eat much salad, but pours the dressings over all kinds of other food. Looks unappetizing to me, but it is what it is.

I’m Italian and grew up on olive oil and salt and pepper. Sometimes I will use a lemon too.
@Malcontent I'm Welsh/German/ENglish/Austrian and I have come lately to love just a really good vinegar on geen salad (salt and fresh pepper given) sometimes. Sherry or a thick cherry vinegar we have and I'm in salad heaven! There are some great vinegars available now!

I don't buy any salad dressing. 100% Italiano here. Usually just use olive oil and vinegar. If making a Caesar's salad, then I will make a simple Caesar dressing for that.

Both. I like to buy Marzetti Sweet Italian when I can afford it.
Otherwise, I make my own blue cheese and buttermilk ranch dressings.
