Do you keep the door closed tight when not in use or do you keep it ajar for air circulation?

We leave our door lightly closed, as in just touching.  I guess you could call that ajar.  The door is up and looks closed but it's not tight/pushed in all the way to make it click.

Side note - I have read with front loading clothes washers that it's good to keep them open a little or mold will build up between the rubber seal and the metal.

@bargainsgirl

I keep the door fully closed.  Never had any problems but it's an older model and things might be different with newer dishwashers.

Leaving the door ajar with dirty dishes would attract bugs and possibly mice.

My dishwasher is a two year old Miele.  I keep it closed and never thought about keeping it open.  Haven't had a problem with odors.

I have an older (14 years) front load clothes washer.  It's an LG and has a magnet on the door to keep it open just enough to let air circulate and stop mold from growing.

I do not close the dishwasher door until it clicks - only when I am going to run the dishwasher.

But I was thinking that mold has never been an issue with my dishwasher.

After I run it, if I open the door, steam rushes out of the dishwasher. Mold doesn't stand a chance.

Slam the Bosch shut every time.  Never had any problems with mold or smells.  But we wash dishes every night too, so highly unlikely we would have a problem.  If it is almost empty we put in the racks from the kitchen sink.

When I had a dishwasher, I always left it ajar after using it. For clothes, I have one of those small combination washer/dryer and I alwsys prop the door open a bit for airing.

Same here, we've always done that-but we also always have the heated dry run every night. Wee too keep our clthes washer ajar.
