I have a 7 year old Bosch dishwasher. I have used the same detergent and rinse agent since I got it. Recently I started having a problem where spoons -- some glass -- and some plastic items are covered in a white film when the cycle ends. I don't mean a light film where I can just rinse it off. This is virtually ingrained in the items. The only way I have been able to clean the spoons is to scrub with Bar Keepers Friend. And I mean SCRUB. Even then not all of it comes off. Googling has offered several suggestions and I will call the repairman tomorrow (for now I am doing all of the dishes and silverware by hand) -- but I wondered if anyone else has ever had this problem. In all my years of using dishwashers this is a first for me. Thanks!

I think a Tigress gave excellent advice. My Sears servicemen suggested putting bowl of vinegar in top rack and running cycle. I also used the commercial cleaner a couple times a year.
Getting ready to buy new dishwasher and Bosch is on my preferred list. Keep us advised please.

I have a Bosch and have never had this problem. Did you clean the trap at the bottom? Also, try to clean your dishwasher with dishwasher cleaner. I use washing machine tablets to clean my washing machine. I would try a new dishwasher detergent too.

Did you clean out that gunk filter at the bottom middle of the machine? Don't think it's your water or pipes if it doesn't happen when hand washing.

My dishwasher did that and it was frustrating. The repair man diagnosed the problem. One of the pumps went out and the water was not washing and rinsing correctly.

Not now. We just had a GE installed two months ago and love it. A rinse agent should help with spotty dishes maybe?

My Bosch often does that too- I chalked it up to our very hard water here.. But if you findthe "cure" please let meknow! i dont even put my lock n' lock in there anymore!
I thought you were not supposed to use "Lemi-Shine" in stainless diswashers...???? Does anyone know if this is true?
I used to use it in my old DW and it worked great...

If you operate a dishwasher with very hard water, you should add some citric acid to your washer. I lived in a place that had such hard water it was virtually undrinkable. I used powdered citric acid in each load. My glassware was still etched and cloudy. When I moved, i threw it all in a dumpster and bought new. We were able to buy it at Walmart since everyone used it, but hardware stores and I bet, Amazon, have it.

I add some Lemi-Shine powder in the dispenser with a Finish Powerball tablet (Also use a rinse agent) when I run a load of dishes thru the DW & have no problem & the water here in Tucson is hard enough you can almost chew it!
