Re: Difference between Kitchen Aid Stand mixers

Don't buy the one with the glass bowl. I'm so disappointed with it. The one I had for 12 years with the stainless steel bowl died on me. I thought this one was an upgrade, but this glass bowl is terrible.

Tonight, I was making the cream puff cake that JPC posted on another thread. The bowl got so stuck that my husband had to hold the entire mixer sideways for me to get the batter out. Then I had to fight with the bowl for another 10 minutes to get it freed up.

I'm so sorry I bought this one. {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

house cat - can you replace the glass bowl with a stainless one?

I thought the glass bowl on the last TSV was pretty, but I would never buy glass because I have ceramic tile floors...one slip and it would be all over for the bowl!

I hope maybe you can find a stainless replacement so you can be happier with your purchase!

I've been a little short on funds lately, or else I would have looked into replacing the glass bowl with a stainless one. I'm assuming (hoping) it can be done some time in the future. My last KA stand mixer died after not-so-many years. I didn't want to see it go to the landfill, so I gave it to a woman who thought her husband could fix it. I gave her the bowl and the attachments, too, and I like the white ceramic coated beater that my old one had, better than this ugly silver one that came with my new machine. Moral of the story, new isn't always better and you don't always get what you paid for.

I have a 5 qt one with a glass bowl I use in the summer when I don't mix much (I got a real super deal on it and it is a color I wanted) and a big 6 qt I use in the winter to bake a lot and if I need a big batch (keep it in the furnace closet! LOL!). I do not like the screw in bowls and MUCH prefer the bowl life because they sometimes aren't in properly when you think they are and can come out and that is scary! I've had 3 get tilted sideways and jammed in when the mixer was going. It took two of us a long time to get them out both times. I am VERY careful with that pretty glass bowl toffee colored one, but it would not be my first choice for a mixer. OH AND THE ONES THAT CAME OUT OF THE TRACK WERE STAINLESS ONES.

I bought my husband the one from QVC with the bigger motor and glass bowl, so far, so good, but we learned like thousands of other people apparently, ha, ha, not to put the aluminum beaters in the dishwasher, Lordy.

How exciting that you get to buy all new stuff!!

As for KitchenAid, I LOVE my KA appliances! But in my opinion, like so many brands, they have just too many options!

I recently replaced my old (1978) K5SS in almond/cream/vanilla - whatever they call the off white - with a beautiful new Empire RED Pro 600 KP26M1X, with 575 watts and 10 speeds. The new one has a lifting head and a 6 qt stainless bowl...it's BIG!

I got mine on a sale with rebate from Overstock a few months ago. I ended up (with the $50 rebate) with a net cost of $290. I thought was a great deal.

The only thing I didn't like about my new KA is that it came with "burnished" attachments. I don't like the look or feel of these, and they can't be put in the dishwasher. So I went on eBay and purchased coated replacements for the dough hook and the flat beater, and I also bought a stainless wire whip.

It just seems that the more models and variations they offer, the harder it is to choose what would work best.

Good luck and enjoy re-doing your kitchen!

Thanks so much for the coated beaters tip from Ebay. We just bought a 6 qt. like yours and I do not like the burnished beaters. Will go on Ebay soon. You got a good buy. we bought a reconditioned model and, after sending it back for a replacement, love this one. Thanks again!

Re: Difference between Kitchen Aid Stand mixers

If I took perfectly good Kitchen Aide appliances and replaced them just to get a different color I would have a huge problem with my DH. - and , to be honest, I would agree with him. I would never buy expensive appliances in a non neutral color and I would certainly not be replacing things that cost hundreds of dollars just to get a certain color. But then i am frugal, my DH and I had to work exceptionally hard for our money and we don't lightly fritter it away.

But it is ok to criticize others for how they spend their money and accuse them of "frittering" it away when you have NO idea what their circumstances are? How noble is that?
