I recently tried the Duncan Hines/Dolly Parton Southern Style Banana Cake Mix.  Followed the recipe exactly and baked it 4  minutes less than than the minimum cooking time on the box.  It came out very dry and the banana flavor seemed a little off.  The batter was very thick, much thicker than any other DH cake mix I've made, and I've made a lot of their flavors.  My oven was at the correct temp (oven thermon).  This mix calls for melted butter, mik and 4 eggs.  I called Duncan Hines and they are sending a replacement coupon but offered no help as to why the cake came out so dry.  We bought the coconut one also but I'm hesitant to use it.  Has anyone else used the DH/Dolly Parton banana or coconut cake mix?

@WORKING GAL

I used to make the spice cake flavor for my husband all the time.  The last few times, no matter how many minutes I took off, it was dry as a bone.

@WORKING GAL    The off-flavor  was probably due to artificial flavoring.  It might enhance the cake to toss in a couple of very ripe bananas.  Artificial banana flavoring is awful.

Re: DUNCAN HINES/DOLLY PARTON

I made the coconut cake last Easter and it was probably the worst cake mix I've ever used. It was extremely dry and just plain odd. I was so disappointed.
